If you’ve purchased a straight barbell to wear as a tongue ring, but it doesn’t fit you well or you don’t like the balls that came with the barbell, there’s a simple solution: Modify your jewelry. Watch the instructional video below to see how you can easily change out your current barbell for a longer or shorter one, or scroll down to the “Change to a Different Gauge (Thickness)” section for instructions on switching to a larger or smaller sized barbell. If you want to purchase new ends for your barbell, use the size guidelines detailed below to ensure that the new balls you choose will properly fit your shaft.

Change to a Different Length

Does the standard 14g, 5/8″-long tongue ring not work for you? Perhaps you need a shorter or longer barbell? You can easily change the shaft length by purchasing this 14g Stainless Steel Shaft in a different length than that of your current barbell:

Straight Barbell Shafts

When you receive the pieces, simply unscrew the balls from your current barbell, and screw them onto the new shaft.

Change to a Different Gauge (Thickness)

Painful Pleasures’ Externally-Threaded 14g, 12g, 10g, and 8g Stainless Steel Straight Barbells generally have the same threading, which makes it so that you can interchange the balls on all four shafts. You can learn more about threading here.

To change the gauge (thickness) of your tongue ring shaft, remove the balls and attach them to a new 12g Stainless Steel Straight Barbell Shaft, 10g Stainless Steel Straight Barbell Shaft or 8g Stainless Steel Straight Barbell Shaft, depending on the new size you’ve chosen to replace your current barbell. Remove the balls on the barbell you originally purchased and thread them onto your new 12g, 10g, or 8g Stainless Steel Straight Barbell.
